Week 5 of the regular season is over.  Everybody holds serve as Western moves on, Kings roll again, and Taylor is still a force to be reckoned with in the MIC.

Let’s take a look back at week 5 of the season.

Western Knocks Out Braves Early

Western raced to a 34-0 lead before winning 47-21.  21 points is the most the Braves have scored all year, but still not enough.

Bart Shepard took part in four of the touchdowns on the night.  Shepard ran for two as well as passed for two. Bart Shepard finishes the night with 77 yards on the ground and 67 in the air.  Jake Askren scored two rushing touchdowns and returned a punt 74 yards for his third score.  Maconaquah was able to score their most points of the season on a solid night by Josh Newbill as he rushes for 95 yards while passing for 47 yards.  Jordan Calendine scored two of the three touchdowns for the Braves on the night.  Western is now 5-0 (3-0 MIC) and Maconaquah drops to 0-5 (0-3 MIC).

Western hosts Peru and Maconaquah hosts Northwestern

Kings Defense Pitches a Shutout

The Kings shutout the Peru Tigers for a third straight year as the Kings win 48-0.  The defense for the Kings was bending by allowing 238 yards but none of those yards were into the end zone.  The Kings offense was incredible as well racking up 478 yards on the night. Foreman would finish the night 6-9 passing for 174 yards and a touchdown in the air and one on the ground. Keith Lee would lead the way on the ground with 5 carries for 65 yards as Cass would have 13 ball carriers rush for 300 yards.  Not one of those ball carriers would carry the ball more than five times. Mason Zimmer would complete 12 of 25 passes for 187 yards with four interceptions.  Tigers mustered just 51 rushing yards on the night.  Lewis Cass improves to 4-1 (3-0 MIC) while Peru falls to 1-4 (1-2 MIC)

Lewis Cass will host Eastern and Peru visits Western

Taylor Hangs on for Victory

It didn’t come easy as the Tigers made a furious comeback late to make a game of it, but come up short 24-20.  Northwestern remain winless in the MIC and Taylor avoids another late lost. Taylor’s Shawn Fogleman bails out a couple of bad snaps on punts, intercepts two passes and returned one of those picks for six points. Teddy Nolley would rush for 118 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown for the Titans.  On the Northwestern side of the ball, Gibson went 19 of 37 for 283 yards with two TD’s through the air and one on the ground.  Mitch Daily and Brayden Merrell each caught eight passes for 117 and 73 yards respectively. Taylor advances to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference while Northwestern falls 2-3 (0-3 MIC).

Taylor will host Hamilton Heights and Northwestern visits Maconaquah.

Heights Holds Off Comets

Big Plays was the common theme in a 35-26 win for the Huskies.

40 yard TD pass to Cale Roark from Jonathan Keith (Eastern)

75 yard TD pass to Beau Ely from Tyler Scherer (HH)

65 yard TD fumble return by Drew Smith (Eastern)

Brock Bolden blocked punt recovered by Bolden in the endzone (HH)

Two blocked extra points by Brock Bolden (HH)

On the night Tyler Scherer threw for 138 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.  Rushing leader for the Huskies was Wyatt Toller who goes for 95 yards on nine carries. Eastern’s Jonathan Keith continues his spectacular season with 260 yards on 22-31 passing with one TD through the air and on the ground.  Cale Roark and Joel Hoover each catch seven balls for 95 and 77 yards respectively.

Week 6 Match-ups:

Peru (1-4) at Western (5-0)

Peru’s defense was shaky at times against the Kings giving up ten plays of more than 20 yards.  Western will look for the same luck from their offensive juggernaut.  Peru can throw the ball and Austin Shaw can hurt you if you are not careful on the ground.  Peru has to keep their head up or this game gets ****.  By the way, Western has won 8 of the last 10 meetings.

Eastern (1-4) at Cass (4-1)

Lewis Cass’ front line has just been terrorizing teams.  Kitt O’Brien has taken his 300 lb frame to both sides of the ball and the scoreboard has shown the difference.  Jonathan Keith will throw it as many times as necessary or let the running game control and then strike from the air.  Eastern has competed in every game where that wasn’t the case the last several years. This could be an interesting game as many teams are trying to test the defensive backs of the Kings due to the massive line that the Kings bolster this year.  Gonna see some points in this one.  Kings have won 13 of the last 16 meetings.

Hamilton Heights (2-3) at Taylor (4-1)

I hear the sound of hands wringing together in Center.  Taylor comes into this game riding high and feeling good about themselves and they should.  Taylor has the best chance to beat the Huskies ever.  Hamilton Heights regain momentum offensively last week by scoring 35 points.  Tyler Scherer threw the football and good things happened.  This is going to be a good ballgame.

Northwestern (2-3) at Maconaquah (0-5)

Both clubs need a conference win.  Maconaquah needs a win period.  They are in the midst of an 11 game losing streak.  The Braves put up 21 points last week. The most they have scored all season.  Northwestern has had a brutal start to the conference season by taking on the top three teams in the league.  The Tigers were in the same boat last year and turned it around to go 8-5.  Friday night will give us a clue as to which direction both of these teams are headed.  Northwestern and Maconaquah have split the last 16 meetings.
