Week 6 of the regular season is behind us.  The big three have come to the top once again.  Western remains undefeated.  Cass rolls on.  Hamilton Heights bounces back.

Let’s take a look back at week 6 of the season.

Western Rushes to Sixth Victory

Western puts up 311 yards on the ground as they beat the Peru Tigers 41-16 to remain undefeated on the season.  Mike Jakubowicz racks up some impressive numbers as he puts 171 yards and two touchdowns on the board.  Bart Shepard keeps running the Western offense like a well oiled machine as he completes three of four passes, rushes for 77 yards and scores three touchdowns.

Peru Tigers Mason Zimmer passed for 141 yards on 15-25 throwing but it did include two interceptions.  Nate Gillespie led the way on the ground with 55 yards and a touchdown.

Western is now 6-0 (4-0 MIC) and Peru drops to 1-5 (1-3 MIC).

Western hosts Eastern and Peru hosts Maconaquah

Kings Offense Unstoppable

Eastern hangs around but the Kings first team offense was never stopped as Lewis Cass wins 48-20.  Eastern and the Kings were tied at 14-14 early in the second quarter and then the Kings score 34 straight points to remain undefeated in MIC.  Colton Zeck rushes for 140 yards and two touchdowns while Kyle Moore adds 110 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The Kings tally 440 yards on the ground as they dominate on the offensive side of the ball.

Eastern continues to improve as Jonathan Keith connects on 19-36 for 267 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.  Freshman Joey Price catches four balls for 30 yards with two of those catches going for touchdowns.  Joel Hoover led the way in receiving with four receptions for 93 yards.

Lewis Cass improves to 5-1 (4-0 MIC) while Eastern falls to 1-5 (1-3 MIC)

Lewis Cass will host Taylor and Eastern visits Western

Hamilton Heights Returns to Winning Way

The Huskies return the opening kickoff of the second half to take a 22-19 lead and that is the way it would end.  Taylor has had a great season, but has been unable to get over the hump over two of the three giants off the MIC.  Hamilton Heights Zac Copas leads the way with 85 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.  Zac Carlson’s 80 yard kickoff return for the Huskies proved to be the difference in the ballgame.

Taylor passed for 216 yards with 197 of those yards coming from the arm of Jake Leight. Leight hooked up with Shawn Fogleman for the first score of the night and then Shawn Fogleman would create his usual excitement with a 65 yard interception return for a TD to draw the Titans within three points.  Austin Conwell caught four balls for 112 yards. Jake Leight went down late in the ball game with an ankle injury and did not return.

Hamilton Heights is now 3-3 (3-1 MIC) while Taylor falls to 4-2 (2-2 MIC)

Heights will host Northwestern while Taylor will get their third straight test as they visit Lewis Cass.

Northwestern Captures First Conference Win

Northwestern puts up 27 points in the second quarter alone as the Tigers defeat Maconaquah 47-20.  The Tigers led 40-0 at one point in this game as the offense was able to total 427 yards.  Trevor Gibson passes for 185 yards on 10 completions.  His main man was Mitch Daily has he hauled in six passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Derek Mumaw rushed for 44 yards and two scores.  Northwestern’s scoring was rounded out by touchdowns from Brayden Merrell and Erick Miller.  Erick Miller finished the night with 117 yards rushing.

Maconaquah never quit as Jordan Calendine rushes for 108 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Phillip Newbill threw for 113 yards and ran for 85 and a score.  Devon Yoder rounded out the scoring with a three yard carry.

Northwestern improves to 3-3 (1-3) while the losing streak runs to 12 for the Braves (0-6, 0-4).

Northwestern visits Hamilton Heights and Maconaquah visits Peru.

Week 7 Match-ups:

Eastern (1-5) at 3A #3 Western (6-0)

Western’s offense is running wild.  They have put up big points the last two weeks and Eastern’s defense could not stop the Kings last week.  Eastern’s offense has been impressive as Jonathan Keith continues to wow fans with his athletic ability and arm.  Eastern must find some defense in this one or it could be a long night.  Live web cast will be on Hoosier Authority.com’s Indiana state page.

Western has won 12 of the last 14 match ups.

Taylor (4-2) at 2A #5 Cass (5-1)

Lewis Cass was relying on defense as the season started, but the offense has been good from the get-go as well.  The Kings will look to continue to pound it on the ground as they have racked nearly 800 yards the last two weeks.  Taylor has had a great season, but they continue to look to move into the upper tier of the MIC.  They have had heartbreaking losses to Heights and Western earlier in the year.  They have one more shot at one of the big three this week.  Shawn Fogleman has been everywhere this season for the Titans and Jake Leight has been very efficient all season long.  This should be the game of the week.

Cass has won 13 of the last 14 meetings.

Northwestern (3-3) at Hamilton Heights (3-3)

This should be a good game.  Northwestern has its confidence back and Hamilton Heights has played well the last couple of weeks.  Heights has been getting it down on the ground while sprinkling in the pass nicely.  Zac Copas has been able to chew up yards on the ground all season for the HUskies.  Northwestern on the other hand can get it done either in the air or on the ground.  Trevor Gibson has been solid throwing the ball all season and Erick Miller is coming off a 117 yard night.

Hamilton Heights has won 7 out of 8 games in this series.

Maconaquah (0-6) at Peru (1-5)

Peru has had two tough weeks against the league leaders.  Now they will see what they have learned as they take on county rival Maconaquah.  Peru has had trouble with turnovers, but Mason Zimmer and Austin Shaw will look to right the ship against the Braves.  For Maconaquah, they have been able to score points the last two weeks as Calendine and Newbill continue to play well.  The Braves will look to stop the losing streak against their cross county rival Tigers on Friday night.

Maconaquah has won 8 of the last 12 games.
