Peru Basketball Celebrates Success over break

The Peru Bengal Tigers played very well over Christmas break to improve their record to 7-1 on the year.  The Tigers picked up three very important wins, in rather dominating fashion.  To get things started Peru open the Holiday Tournament up with a big win over county-rival North Miami, 58-44.  The Tigers were clearly at a height advantage however, they played a great swarming defense in containing North Miami’s two post presences.  Wes Zimmerman led the Bengal Tigers with 23 points over the Warriors.  The next night Peru played in the Championship round against Whitko.  Once again Peru played very hard defense and contained the Whitko players to just 39 points of offense.  The Tigers won the game 50-39, and were led by Terry Smith with 18 points and 5 steals.  The Tigers captured the first Holiday Tournament title during the new era of the tourney.  The Tigers capped off an amazing week with another dominating victory over sectional opponent Norwell.  The Tigers defense once again kept their opponents in check in limiting the Norwell offense to just 11 points at halftime.  Peru carried that momentum to a final score of 52-36.  Justin Engel and Terry Smith paced the Tiger offense with 15 points each.  The Tigers return to action Friday January 9th against a very good Kokomo team, and than follow that with class 2A No. 5 Oak Hill on Saturday night.  Good luck Bengal Tigers!
