FB: Mid-Indiana teams go just 2-6 in openers

HA Staff Report

It was not a
good night for the Mid-Indiana Conference in opening football games Friday
evening. The league went just 2-6 in contests versus non-conference foes. For
those looking for a bright spot, they need look no further than Greentown where
the Comets tumbled 2A #8 Oak Hill 27-15. Quarterback Jonathon Keith was the
hero of the evening, tossing three touchdown passes for Eastern.

Northwestern
was the other MIC team to post a victory. The Tigers rolled to an easy 35-0
triumph over Frankton. The competition will stiffen a little next Friday when
Northwestern travels to North Miami.

Those North
Miami Warriors ruined Maconaquah’s opener 35-14. The Braves committed five
turnovers to seal their fate. Peru also had a tough debut. The Tigers fell 39-0
to Rochester in a contest where they were outgained 200 to 51 on the ground.
Western also had a hard time moving the ball in a 21-3 loss at Frankfort.

The rest of
the losses suffered by conference teams were more heartbreaking. Taylor held a
14-7 lead late in the third quarter but saw it slip away in a 21-14 loss to
Wabash. Lewis Cass fell by the same score to the powerful ground attack of
Pioneer. Hamilton Heights succumbed in a close battle with Tipton 11-7.

In addition to the Northwestern-North Miami
game, the week two schedule is highlighted by two showdowns with CIC squads.
Eastern will try to ride the momentum in a match up with Madison-Grant while
Western gets the unenviable task of travelling to Eastbrook
