GBB: Opening week brings mixed results for Mid-Indiana teams

Staff Report

It was a
mixed bag of results for the Mid-Indiana Conference in week one on the
hardwood. However, one thing is obvious. If they stay healthy, beware of
Hamilton Heights and Peru. Heights began the season with two impressive
victories. They downed perennial toughie Tri-Central on Wednesday 71-53 and then
drubbed a respectable Madison-Grant squad 70-39. Meanwhile, Peru dropped a
tough opener to Plymouth 44-37 but rebounded Saturday with a 63-58 triumph over
Culver Academies. Don’t leave Taylor out of the mix. The Titans ripped North
Miami in their opener 76-33.

The rest of
the conference took some lumps in week one. Maconaquah dropped a second game on
Saturday when they fell to Mississinewa 67-54. Western also dropped a pair of
contests during the week. The Panthers fell to West Lafayette 59-36 and then to
Frankfort 47-35. Cass also dropped two games. Rossville crowned the Kings 44-24
and Winamac did the same 59-41.

Kokomo
ruined Northwester’s season debut 59-46. However, Eastern was victorious in its
first trip to the floor. The Comets downed Sheridan 51-43.
