Second-ranked Brebeuf shot a 314 to hold off No. 7 Hamilton Southeastern by a single shot for the team title May 4 at the Crooked Stick Invitational.
Brebeuf’s Gus Gilmore carded a 74 to defeat a trio of golfers – Nathan Mueting of Carmel, Zionsville’s Tanner Rabb, and HSE’s Will Kleinrichert – for medalist honors. And the Braves, who finished with three players at 80 or below, needed every shot they could save to fend off the runner-up Royals (315).
Third-ranked Carmel (317) was two shots back of Carmel in third, with No. 13 Zionsville (326) fourth, Brebeuf’s “B” team fifth with a 344, and No. 19 Peru (350) sixth in the seven-team field.
“The golf course was in great condition,” said Carmel coach Chad Carr. “It played very tough, and we had some problems adjusting to the greens. But all we can do is keep moving forward toward our long-term goal.”
