As 2008 ends, let’s take a look back at the first half of the girl’s season and look forward to the home stretch of the conference race.

The Lady Huskies of Hamilton Heights lead the league at 2-0 with the Taylor Titans nipping at their heels with a 3-1 record. Northwestern has a record of 2-1 and cannot be counted out of the conference race.

Hamilton Heights has played only two conference games at this point. Northwestern and Peru have fallen victim to the Lady Huskies already. The story will quickly unfold for Hamilton Heights. Starting January 8th Heights will play four conference games in 11 days. Three of those games will be on the road. Taylor awaits a potential conference championship showdown on January 24th.

Hamilton Heights is currently rated 37th overall and 9th in class 3A according to the Sagarin ratings with a record of 9-2 overall. The latest coaches’ poll has the Huskies rated 11th in class 3A.

The Taylor Titans stand at 3-1 in the conference and 11-3 overall. Taylor’s lone loss was a heartbreaking two point loss to Northwestern. Taylor was short handed on that Saturday afternoon with two players missing due to sickness. Oh, how coach Dennis Bentzler would like to have that day back. Taylor wraps up its season with Hamilton Heights on January 24th and Peru on the 31st.

Taylor is rated 63rd in the state according to the Sagarin ratings and 5th in class 2A. Taylor is ranked 8th in the latest coaches poll for class 2A.

Northwestern is hanging around with a record of 2-1 in the conference and an 8-3 overall mark. The Lady Tigers have a plus and a minus in their conference resume. A win versus Taylor and a loss to Hamilton Heights puts Northwestern in a position that they cannot afford to make any mistakes.

Northwestern is rated 77th overall in the state and 21st in class 3A.

All the rest of the teams have two losses, and they will need a lot help at this point to contend for the conference title.

On an individual basis, the Mid-Indiana conference has several players that crack the top 100 in the state. The official IHSAA scoring leaders has Peru’s Allison Green ranked 15th in the state at 19.9 points per game. Hamilton Heights’ Libby Ogden is ranked 47th with 16.3 ppg as well as teammate Jessica Carr who has averaged 16.0 ppg and ranked 55th.

In the assists category, Hamilton Heights has its own Jessica Carr ranked 28th with 4.9 assists per game.

In the steals per game (spg) leader board, yep you guessed it. Jessica Carr is ranked 12th with 5.0 steals per game and teammate Libby Ogden is ranked 38th with 3.88 spg.

If you did not see your individual player’s stats, it means that your team has not entered their stats into Digital Sports, the official IHSAA stats package.

Tigers enter AP poll

The Peru Bengal Tigers have worked extremely hard in beginning the season at 3-0.  The Tigers have demolished Wabash County foes, Southwood and Wabash.  They also have a big victory against North Central Conference and 4A school, Logansport.  Now, the Tigers are beginning to receive recognition and credit that they rightfully deserve.  This week the Tigers joined the AP top ten for class 3A at number ten.  However, they look to improve their record and reputation this week when they face perennial power and class 3A number thirteen, Plymouth.  The Tigers have had recent struggles against the Pilgrims but are confident that they can get over the hump this Friday at Tig-Arena.  Good luck Tigers!
